Sikkim Tourism has received the Award of Excellence for promoting rural and sustainable tourism at the Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF) in Mumbai, recognising the state’s efforts to advance responsible, community-based tourism. Participating as a partner state under the Sikkim INSPIRES initiative from August 20 to 22, Sikkim showcased its rural tourism initiatives, nature-based attractions, cultural experiences, destinations and hospitality offerings to the national tourism market. The state’s pavilion attracted strong interest from travel professionals, tourism stakeholders and visitors, particularly from Mumbai and Maharashtra. Several tour packages were reportedly booked during the event, highlighting the potential to increase tourist arrivals from the region and other parts of India. More than 15 tourism stakeholders participated, including representatives of tourism associations, village tourism committees from Rabong and Pakyong, Buddha Park in Ravangla, hotels and travel agencies. The fair also provided an opportunity to establish new business connections and strengthen partnerships with travel agencies, tour operators and tourism organisations. The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department said the award reinforces Sikkim’s position as a destination focused on balancing tourism growth with environmental conservation, community participation and sustainable livelihoods. Tourism stakeholders also expressed appreciation to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Tshering T Bhutia for supporting Sikkim’s participation at the national tourism forum.
