Amazon Employees In ‘Constant Panic’

A recent social media post has reignited discussions around employee mental health following widespread layoffs. After Amazon announced plans to reduce around 14,000 corporate positions globally, potentially rising to 30,000, a Reddit user shared a friend’s harrowing experience at the company.

Titled, “What layoff anxiety does to a blud who’s actually good at his job,” the post described the friend as highly skilled, yet constantly anxious about his job security. The user noted that he barely sleeps, getting only two to three hours nightly, obsessively checking emails for any notification about layoffs, which often arrive late at night or early morning.

The post highlighted the mental toll of uncertainty, emphasizing how fear of losing a job can devastate well-performing employees long before any official layoff. The story resonated with many online, with users sharing similar experiences of panic, sleeplessness, and stress during layoffs. Others offered reassurance, noting talented employees like him could secure positions elsewhere.

The layoffs reflect CEO Andy Jassy’s strategy to streamline Amazon, reduce bureaucracy, and expand AI and automation usage, underscoring the broader operational shifts affecting employees’ mental well-being.
