‘Dear Friends’ PM Modi, Putin Say “Walk Together In Fight Against Terror”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Russia “stand together in the fight against terrorism” during a joint statement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on his first state visit to India in four years. Moscow has consistently backed New Delhi’s anti-terror efforts, strongly condemning the Pahalgam attack linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and supporting India’s Operation Sindoor against terrorist bases in Pakistan and illegally occupied parts of Kashmir.

Modi highlighted that despite global upheavals over eight decades, India-Russia ties—built on trust and mutual respect—have remained strong. The leaders also announced several economic initiatives, including an MoU in the shipping sector. Putin reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to continue uninterrupted fuel supplies to India, even as New Delhi faces pressure from the US to curb Russian oil purchases. Modi thanked him but focused publicly on cooperation in nuclear and clean energy.

Both sides discussed expanding trade, with Putin aiming for USD 100 billion annually and emphasising the shift toward national currencies for bilateral payments. The Ukraine conflict was also reviewed, with Putin appreciating Modi’s peace efforts. The two leaders further stressed ongoing collaboration in energy and critical minerals.
