Opposition Protests Stall Budget Session as Lok Sabha Adjourns

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday as persistent Opposition protests continued to disrupt proceedings during the Budget Session. Speaker Om Birla strongly reprimanded members for sloganeering and displaying placards, noting that a total of 19 hours and 13 minutes of House time has been lost so far due to repeated disruptions.
Following the adjournment, it was announced that the Lok Sabha will reconvene at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026. The first phase of the Budget Session is scheduled to conclude on February 13, after which Parliament will break for recess until March 9.
In the Rajya Sabha, political tensions also surfaced during Question Hour, with Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw engaging in a brief exchange. The banter revolved around Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, who switched allegiance from the Congress to the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The controversy follows earlier remarks by Opposition leaders that had intensified political sparring within Parliament.
