Culture, Colour, and Community: Chümoukedima Set to Host Mini Hornbill Festival

Preparations for the Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 are intensifying following a coordination meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Chumoukedima. Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Polan John, the meeting reviewed the festival’s arrangements slated for February 25 at Sovima Village Council Ground. The festival aims to celebrate Naga traditions and foster local entrepreneurship, bringing together officials from various departments to ensure seamless collaboration.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the festival’s importance as a cultural and economic platform, urging for robust inter-departmental cooperation. The Senior Tourist Officer presented an outline of the festivities, indicating that a capacity-building session will also be part of the celebrations. The Chairman of the Sovima Village Council provided an update on the preparations, which include traditional games, tents, canopies, and departmental stalls, with approximately 11 departments confirming their participation.

Furthermore, participants emphasized the necessity for wider publicity to enhance public turnout and community involvement. The meeting concluded with a call for all relevant departments to work closely together to ensure the festival is conducted smoothly and successfully under the auspices of the Government of Nagaland.
