In Mokokchung district, researchers discovered two new freshwater fish species, Glyptothorax sentimereni and Oreichthys elianae, named in honor of the late collaborator Lt. Limaakum’s children, fulfilling his final wish. The study, published in Zootaxa, was led by J. Praveenraj and Balaji Vijayakrishnan. Glyptothorax sentimereni thrives in the rocky Dikhu River, utilizing an adhesive structure to cling to rocks, while Oreichthys elianae, measuring 2.5 cm, is found in a tributary of the Tsurang River, noted for its bright red fins. This research enhances understanding of the Brahmaputra River Basin’s biodiversity and pays tribute to Limaakum’s scientific commitment.
