Training Held in Guwahati to Ensure Smooth Vote Counting Process

In order to ensure the smooth conduct of the vote counting process for the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026, a training programme for the District Election Officers, Returning Officers, and Election officers was held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati. Organised under the aegis of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, the programme covered detailed planning and various aspects of implementation of the counting process, in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, Anurag Goel, along with the Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Joint Chief Electoral Officers, attended the programme as resource persons. The Chief Electoral Officer instructed all concerned officials to ensure that the counting process is carried out strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He also highlighted the arrangements to be made in the counting halls and emphasised the need for special vigilance in the management of EVMs and VVPATs during the counting process.

The training programme covered all key aspects, including counting of postal ballots and EVMs, opening of strong rooms and transportation of materials to counting halls, deployment and training of counting personnel, issuance of identity cards to counting agents, fire safety measures, media management, and post-counting procedures to be completed within the stipulated time.

During the session, participants were able to clarify their queries related to various aspects of the counting process. Officials from all districts participated in the training programme. At the conclusion of the programme, the Chief Electoral Officer expressed confidence that, with the dedication and full cooperation of all concerned, the vote counting process would be conducted smoothly and successfully. The counting of votes for the Assam Assembly polls will take place on May 4.
