ITBP Personnel Immersed in Sikkim’s Language and Traditions

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has officially launched a specialized five-day cultural orientation programme aimed at familiarizing its personnel with the unique language, traditions, and rich heritage of Sikkim. The training initiative commenced on Monday at the 13th Battalion ITBP headquarters, marking a significant step toward deepening local cultural understanding among troops stationed across the Himalayan state.

The inaugural session was attended by Deputy Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh of the ITBP Sector Headquarters, Gangtok. Highlighting the collaborative nature of the initiative, the training sessions are being conducted by subject-matter experts from the Department of Culture, Government of Sikkim. These experts will provide the troops with invaluable insights into the state’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape.

Currently, 40 personnel drawn from the 11th, 13th, 48th, and 63rd Battalions are participating in the intensive programme. This diverse representation ensures that the benefits of the cultural training are widespread across multiple operational units deployed in the region.

This initiative strongly reflects the ITBP’s ongoing commitment to fostering cultural awareness and sensitivity among its ranks. By ensuring that personnel deployed in Sikkim are thoroughly equipped to understand local customs, the ITBP aims to enhance mutual respect and strengthen engagement with local border communities. Such efforts are viewed as vital for seamless collaboration and maintaining harmony in the strategic border state.
