CAP-Sikkim Urges Centre to Hold Talks as Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Continues

The Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-Sikkim) has urged the Union Government to initiate dialogue with activist Sonam Wangchuk as his indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi continues. The party expressed concern over his declining health and appealed for meaningful engagement to address the issues raised by him.

Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 18 days and remains under continuous medical observation. According to a medical bulletin issued by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), his condition is stable but he has become very weak.

The bulletin stated that Wangchuk’s weight has dropped to 57.15 kg after losing another 400 grams in the past 24 hours, bringing his total weight loss since the beginning of the fast to 8.9 kg. His blood pressure was recorded at 105/76, blood sugar level at 80 mg/dL, and oxygen saturation at 97 per cent, while his hydration level remained fair.

In a statement, CAP-Sikkim said it was praying for Wangchuk’s health and safety and requested the Centre to respond to his concerns through constructive discussions. The party stressed that dialogue would be an important step towards finding a solution to the matters highlighted by the activist.

The appeal comes amid growing attention over Wangchuk’s ongoing protest and calls for the government to engage with him to resolve the issues through peaceful and democratic means.
