Two Suspects Held After Namsai Encounter; Civilian Woman Suffers Bullet Injury

A woman was injured after being caught in the crossfire during an exchange of fire between the 8 Assam Rifles and an unidentified insurgent group in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district on Thursday night. Two suspects were later apprehended in connection with the incident.

According to official sources, the gunfight broke out at around 9.15 pm on July 17 in the area between Tengapani Reserve Forest and Lal Pahar Road.

During the exchange of fire, Koilani Namchoom (30), daughter of Chow Nalaching Namchoom and a resident of Momong village in Namsai district, sustained a bullet injury to her left knee.

She was initially provided medical assistance before being referred to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital in neighbouring Assam for advanced treatment. Her condition is yet to be officially disclosed.

Officials said security forces later apprehended two suspects during follow-up operations after the gunfight. The detained individuals have been handed over to Namsai Police for further investigation.

Authorities have not yet identified the insurgent group involved in the exchange of fire. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
