Vijoynagar Gets Electricity Through New Micro Hydro Project

Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Vijoynagar circle in Changlang district has been connected to electricity following the commissioning of the 2×250 kW Sirit Micro Hydro Scheme (MHS), providing reliable power to one of the state’s most isolated frontier regions.

The achievement was announced on Friday by Miao-Vijoynagar MLA Kamlung Mossang, who described the project as a major step towards improving infrastructure and public services in the farthest parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The commissioning of the micro-hydro project establishes grid connectivity in Vijoynagar, which shares a border with Myanmar and is surrounded by the Namdapha National Park. The region has remained geographically isolated for decades because of its dense forests and difficult terrain, making access to basic infrastructure a long-standing challenge.

“Access to electricity will significantly improve education, healthcare, communication, livelihoods and the overall quality of life for the people here, while opening new doors for growth and economic progress,” Mossang said.

Officials said the availability of reliable electricity is expected to support the development of eco-tourism, organic farming and horticulture in the region, creating new opportunities for sustainable economic growth in the border area.

The project was implemented jointly by the state’s Hydro Power Development Department and the Power Department. The Sirit Micro Hydro Scheme was sanctioned to utilise the area’s small hydro potential and fulfil a long-pending commitment to provide dependable electricity to remote frontier villages.

Built at an estimated cost of more than Rs 14 crore, the project is expected to benefit over 1,500 residents living across eight villages—Dara Gaon, Dawodi, Phaparbari, Gahrigaon, Hazolo, Ramnagar, Buddhamandir and the Vijoynagar headquarters.

Mossang thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for giving priority to infrastructure development in remote border areas. He also appreciated the efforts of government officials, engineers and technical teams who completed the project despite logistical and geographical challenges.
