Amazon layoffs to impact 800-1,000 jobs in India

Amazon India’s latest round of layoffs will affect multiple departments, including finance, human resources, and technology, according to The Economic Times, citing sources. The job cuts are expected to primarily impact employees reporting to global teams. When asked about the move, an Amazon India spokesperson referred to a note shared by Senior Vice President Beth Galetti, who said the reductions were part of ongoing efforts to streamline operations and strengthen the organization by “reducing bureaucracy, removing layers, and reallocating resources toward our biggest priorities.”

Globally, Amazon.com Inc. has initiated its second major round of layoffs in two years, eliminating about 14,000 corporate positions. This follows CEO Andy Jassy’s earlier comments that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform how work is done and reduce the company’s workforce over time. Jassy previously noted that AI-driven efficiencies will mean fewer traditional roles but more opportunities in emerging areas.

Amazon, which employs around 1.55 million people worldwide, including about 350,000 in corporate roles, is reportedly investing over $100 billion in AI in 2025—up from $83 billion the previous year—while continuing to expand hiring in AI-related divisions.
