The Nagaland government’s Department of School Education has reaffirmed its dedication to addressing the issues of adhoc and contract teachers. However, it has clarified that the demands presented by the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers Group (ANATG) cannot be fulfilled due to procedural limitations. A press release from the department elaborated that these demands cannot be met at this stage because they are bound by the mandatory procedures outlined in the State’s one-time regularisation policy. This policy necessitates a thorough review and verification of documents, confirmation of eligibility criteria, and adherence to established government guidelines that are uniformly applicable to all eligible adhoc and contract employees in the State. Consequently, the department stated that it is impractical to set a specific date for regularisation or to accept demands outside this stipulated framework at the current time. ANATG consists of 1166 teachers who were appointed on an adhoc or contract basis for various categories of posts in the School Education Department between the late 1990s and 2012, and they are currently protesting for the regularisation of their services.
