MLA Naiba Konyak has raised concerns regarding fire incidents in Dzukou Valley, urging preventative measures. In response to his question in the State Assembly, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated that no individuals have been identified in connection with these incidents. He reported that the expenses for hiring Army helicopters to combat forest fires in 2023 have not yet been finalized. Rio outlined various preventive measures being implemented, including training community volunteers from the Western and Southern Angami areas, in partnership with the Angami Youth Organization (AYO), scheduled from March 3 to 9, 2025. Additional initiatives include establishing watch towers for early fire detection, procuring firefighting equipment such as beaters, drones, and water backpacks, creating and maintaining fire lines, training Rapid Response Teams (RRTs), installing early warning systems like SMS alerts and sirens, and employing drone surveillance for areas that are difficult to access.
