Assam Rifles Neutralises Two Suspected Militants in Changlang Operation

Two suspected militants linked to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) were killed during a counter-insurgency operation carried out by the Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, officials said on Tuesday.The operation took place in a densely forested area near Songking village under Miao police station limits in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. According to security sources, the encounter followed a night-long operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about the presence of armed militants in the region.Officials said the militants were allegedly camping in the area and were suspected to be involved in extortion activities targeting local villagers. Sources claimed that residents of nearby villages had been facing pressure from the group to pay money.

Acting on the intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles personnel launched a search operation in the area. During the operation, troops reportedly came under heavy fire from the militants, leading to a gunbattle that continued through the night.Two suspected militants were killed during the exchange of fire, officials said. Security forces later recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site. However, authorities have not yet officially disclosed the identities of the deceased militants. Following the operation, additional troops were deployed and a large-scale search operation was launched in surrounding forest areas to track down any remaining insurgents and prevent further militant movement.

Meanwhile, another encounter between security forces and militants was reported from Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Monday night. According to officials, troops of the Assam Rifles exchanged fire with suspected militants near Chop village under the Wakka circle. No casualties were reported from either side in the Longding gunbattle till the filing of this report. Security forces are continuing search operations in the area, while further details regarding both incidents are awaited.
