Second Qualifier Ever in Slam Final: Chwalińska Battles Andreeva for Roland Garros Title

Maja Chwalińska’s dream run continues at the French Open. The player created history by reaching the final of the women’s singles event at the year’s second Grand Slam tournament. Chwalińska has entered the final of a Grand Slam tournament as only the second qualifier in the Open Era. Prior to this, Emma Raducanu, who got the opportunity to play from the qualifying round in 2021, won the US Open title with a stellar performance.
This time, Chwalińska earned the opportunity to play in the main draw of the French Open after putting up a brilliant performance in the qualifying rounds. In the second semifinal held last night, the Polish player defeated Russia’s Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.
In tomorrow’s title clash, Chwalińska will face Mirra Andreeva. In the first semifinal, eighth seed Andreeva defeated Marta Kostyuk in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Following Maria Sharapova, 19-year-old Andreeva now has a golden opportunity to win the French Open title as a Russian player.
