Rishabh Pant added another record to his name during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Tuesday. On Day 4, the India wicketkeeper-batter became the fastest player in Test history to hit 100 sixes, achieving the feat in terms of deliveries faced.
Pant reached the landmark after playing 4,918 deliveries, breaking Adam Gilchrist’s previous record of 6,578 balls. He also became the first Indian cricketer to complete 100 sixes in the longest format.
Pant had earlier overtaken Virender Sehwag to become India’s highest six-hitter in Test cricket. He reached 91 sixes during the Test series against South Africa in November 2025, moving ahead of Sehwag’s tally of 90. Rohit Sharma is third on the Indian list with 88 sixes, followed by Ravindra Jadeja with 82 and MS Dhoni with 78.
The milestone places Pant among an exclusive group of batters who have smashed at least 100 sixes in Test cricket. Only Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist had achieved the feat before him. Stokes leads the overall list with 138 sixes, while McCullum has 107 and Gilchrist 100.
Pant also played a crucial attacking innings in India’s second innings in Galle. He scored 66 runs from 69 deliveries, including eight fours and two sixes, and shared a 54-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket.
India were eventually dismissed for 193 in 48.5 overs, leaving Sri Lanka with a target of 372 runs. Pant was India’s top scorer in the second innings, while Devdutt Padikkal contributed 44 runs.
Earlier, Padikkal’s 167 helped India reach 462 in their first innings. Sri Lanka responded with 284, with Sonal Dinusha scoring 100 and Niroshan Dickwella making 80. The duo also put together a 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
