NPF Seeks Accountability Over Alleged Kil*lings of Six Nagas

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has demanded immediate and expedited justice in connection with the alleged killings of six Nagas in Manipur, saying failure to take exemplary action against those responsible could weaken public confidence in the government and the administration of law and justice. The demand followed an NPF delegation’s visit to Makhan village on August 10, where party leaders met displaced Naga families who have been taking shelter there amid the continuing unrest in Manipur. The delegation was led by NPF vice president and in-charge of the Manipur State Unit Vipopal Kintso. Vice presidents Kekongchim Yimkhiung and Angyie Konyak were also part of the delegation. According to the NPF, more than 200 displaced people are currently sheltered at Makhan village. The party said the group includes the wives and children of the six Nagas who were allegedly killed by members of the Kuki community.

The NPF said more than three months had passed since the alleged incident but expressed concern that no tangible action had been taken against those allegedly responsible. The party claimed that the names of persons allegedly involved in the abduction had already been submitted to law-enforcement agencies. The party called for immediate steps to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the alleged killings, saying a delay in delivering justice could further affect public trust in the administration. The delegation also expressed anguish over the accounts shared by the displaced families and their continuing difficulties. The NPF condemned the alleged killings and the reported mutilation of the bodies, describing the incidents as deeply distressing. The party said the plight of displaced families should receive greater attention from the authorities, particularly as the unrest in Manipur continues to affect communities and force people to remain away from their homes. The NPF also appealed to the Manipur government to provide relief and rehabilitation to all people affected by the ongoing unrest in the state in a fair and judicious manner.

It urged the state government to ensure that assistance reaches affected people without fear or favour and that relief measures are not influenced by community or political considerations. The party also appealed to the Government of India to show empathy towards the people of Manipur and take steps to help restore peace and harmony in the state. The NPF said accountability and timely justice were essential to rebuilding confidence among affected communities and addressing the grievances arising from the prolonged conflict. The party maintained that effective investigation and action against those responsible for violence would be necessary to strengthen public faith in the rule of law and create conditions for lasting peace in Manipur.
