As many as 128 people from 28 houses have been evacuated from vulnerable areas of Rimbi in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district following fresh landslide activity and heavy rainfall, according to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA). The district administration and concerned departments are conducting relief and restoration operations in Singlitam and Rimbi, where landslides were reported on September 12. Gyalshing District Collector Tenzing Denzongpa has been visiting the affected areas to assess the situation and monitor damage to public infrastructure and government property. At Singlitam, a relief centre at Singlitam Ward is sheltering more than 33 people from seven directly affected households, including elderly persons and children, with the administration providing food and essential supplies. In Rimbi, four houses comprising 18 family members were initially evacuated as a precautionary measure, with families staying with relatives and receiving assistance. Following heavy rainfall and flooding on September 14, a fresh assessment led to the evacuation of 28 houses, involving 128 people, who were shifted to the Rimbi Gram Panchayat Kendra. Meanwhile, the Roads and Bridges Department is carrying out debris clearance and road restoration work around the clock at affected locations to restore connectivity and support relief operations.
