India is stepping closer to robust dengue prevention with plans underway to introduce the country’s inaugural market-ready dengue vaccine by the first half of 2027. Takeda’s flagship vaccine, QDENGA, officially earned its marketing authorisation from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). To build an effective private market network, Japanese drugmaker Takeda has entered into an exclusive partnership with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, who will manage the promotion and distribution of the product to protect vulnerable children and adults.
Built on rigorous clinical evaluations and backed by CDSCO’s approval for individuals aged 4 to 60 years, QDENGA represents India’s first regulatory-cleared shield against the virus. Documented widely in publications like NPJ Vaccines, the TAK-003 vaccine is a live-attenuated tetravalent injection designed to confer broad protection against all four viral serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). Delivered in a strict two-dose regimen separated by three months, the vaccine offers the unique benefit of application regardless of prior infection status, bypassing the necessity for complex pre-vaccination screenings.
