An Assam youth was arrested in Barpeta district on Sunday in connection with a cybercrime case registered at the CID Cyber Crime Police Station in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
A team of Gujarat Police, with assistance from Barpeta Police, traced and arrested the accused, identified as Azizul Hussain, a resident of Dangarkuchi village in Barpeta district.
According to police, the Gujarat team travelled to Barpeta as part of its investigation into the cybercrime case registered in Gandhinagar. With the assistance of local police personnel, the team located Hussain and took him into custody on September 13.
After his arrest, Hussain was brought to Barpeta Police Station, where he was questioned in connection with the case. The Gujarat Police are now seeking transit remand from the court to take him to Gujarat for further investigation.
Hussain is expected to be taken to Gujarat after the completion of the required legal formalities and the court proceedings related to his transit remand.
The case has been registered at the Gandhinagar CID Cyber Crime Police Station under Case No. 11201018260052/2026.
Police have booked Hussain under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. Section 66(D) deals with cheating by personation using a computer resource or communication device.
The arrest is part of the ongoing investigation by Gujarat Police into the cybercrime case. Further details about the alleged offence and the role attributed to the accused are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
