Rising spine problems in Kohima highlight need for early diagnosis and preventive care

ISIC Multispeciality Hospital, New Delhi, has called for greater awareness of spine health in Kohima, warning that delayed diagnosis and treatment can lead to chronic pain, reduced mobility and disability, with potential implications for workforce productivity and healthcare expenditure.

Dr Neeraj Gupta, Senior Consultant, Spine Services at ISIC, said persistent back or neck pain, pain radiating to the arms or legs, numbness and tingling should prompt timely medical consultation. He observed that some patients from Kohima seek help only when walking or movement becomes difficult.

Prolonged sitting, excessive screen time, poor posture, inadequate exercise, obesity, stress, improper lifting and repetitive hand and wrist movements are among the factors contributing to spine-related concerns. Common conditions include lower back pain, cervical spondylosis, slipped discs and spinal stenosis. Doctors recommend regular movement breaks, physical activity, healthy weight management and correct lifting techniques to reduce risks.

In Kohima, rising spine-related health concerns underline the importance of workplace wellness and access to specialised medical services. Pain and mobility problems can affect attendance, productivity and household spending on treatment, although the press release provides no local market data to quantify the economic impact. Greater awareness and early consultation could help residents manage health risks before complications develop.

Established in 1997, ISIC Multispeciality Hospital operates a 200-bed facility in New Delhi, offering specialised spine care, orthopaedics and rehabilitation services. Dr Gupta regularly visits Kohima to consult patients with spine and orthopaedic conditions.
