Bank of Baroda is investigating reports of an alleged cybersecurity breach after a dark web threat actor claimed to have accessed and publicly released nearly 1TB of sensitive banking and internal data. Cybersecurity researchers flagged that the leaked dataset includes customer names, Aadhaar numbers, loan details, current and savings account records, alongside internal branch audit and compliance reports. While cybersecurity tracking platforms indicate that a threat actor called “TripleX” made the sample files downloadable on a Tor site, regulatory bodies including the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and CERT-In have not officially verified the breach. Early analysis suggests that sensitive login credentials, such as passwords, ATM PINs, and OTPs, were not part of the exposed data dump. Nevertheless, experts warn that the leak of personally identifiable information heightens the risk of targeted phishing campaigns and identity theft, prompting calls for account holders to remain vigilant against suspicious communications.
